Meeks Cabin Reservoir (Evanston)
Meeks Cabin Dam, Lyman Project, located in Uinta County, about 2 miles north of the Utah-Wyoming State line and 22 miles southwest of Fort Bridger, is a rolled earth and rockfill structure 185 feet above streambed with a crest 3, 162 feet long. Recreation management at Meeks Cabin Reservoir is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service, Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Forest Service can be reached at 307.789.3194.
Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge (Parkersburg)
Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1990 to protect, conserve, and restore habitat for wildlife native to the river's floodplain. The refuge consists of twenty-one islands and three mainland tracts scattered along nearly 400 miles of the river in three states: West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Although over 3200 acres of land and underwater habitats are held by the refuge, this represents only a small fraction of what was once the "wild" Ohio.

The Hildebrand Lock And Dam on the upper Monongahela River has a short pool that provides a scenic boat trip in both summer and fall, but no access by car.
Winfield Lock And Dam (Red House)
Winfield Lock and dam is one of the essential navigation projects on the Kanawha River, used primarily for the shipment of coal and chemicals for the large industrial complex of Charleston. There are 5 recreation areas at the lock site, visitors center, overlook, observation areas, several nature/wildlife habitat ponds and over 1 1/2 miles of fishing acess. Recreation facilities are located in the pool area.

Provides a 9-ft navigable channel on the Kanawha River extending 15 mi to London Dam.
London Locks And Dam (London)
Provides a navigable channel to the head of navigation on the Kanawha River and principally serves the coal mines in that area. Located near Montgomery, WV.
Robert C. Byrd Locks And Dam (Gallipolis Ferry)
Recreation opportunities at the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam include boating, fishing, water sports, and wildlife viewing.
Racine Locks And Dam (Letart)
Provides a navigable pool extending 34 miles up the Ohio River to Belleville Locks and Dam. This area is along the Lewis and Clark route.
Sutton Lake (Sutton)
Sutton Lake is a beautiful lake, winding 14 miles along the Elk River, with many coves along its 45 miles of shoreline. The lake attracts fishing and boating enthusiasts. Located in the wooded hills of central West Virginia, the project office is 1 mi E of Sutton, off I-79.
Opekiska Lock And Dam - Monongahela River (Fairmont)
Provides a pool that winds through the beautiful West Virginia mountains to Fairmont where the West Fork and Tygart Rivers join to form the Monogahela.
Pike Island Locks And Dam - Ohio River (Wheeling)
Provides a 30-mile pool on the Ohio River ideal for industry and recreation. This area is along the Lewis and Clark route.
Tygart Lake (Grafton)
Located in the picturesque West Virginia countryside, Tygart Lake's blue waters and irregular shoreline contrast with the surrounding steep mountain terrain. The steep, wooded mountainsides and the clear inviting waters of the lake attract many visitors to Tygart for a day of relaxation and enjoyment.
Monongahela National Forest (Elkins)
Recreation ranges from self reliant treks in the wildernesses and backcountry areas to the challenges of mountain climbing to traditional developed site camping. There are 23 campgrounds, 17 picnic areas, and 500 plus miles of hiking trails. The extensive backwoods road and trail system is used for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. There are many miles of railroad grades that are a link in the recreation use of the Forest.

Highland Scenic Byway (Elkin)
This highway in the Monongahela National Forest traverses through river valleys and up onto mountain ridges, providing breathtaking vistas as well as scenic walks through mountain bogs and cranberry glades.
Bluestone National Scenic River (Glen Jean)
This scenic river preserves relatively unspoiled land in southern West Virginia and contains natural and historic features of the Appalachian plateau. In its 11 miles, the lower Bluestone River offers excellent warm water fishing, hiking, boating, and scenery.

Gauley River National Recreation Area (Glen Jean)
The 25 miles of free-flowing Gauley River and the six miles of the Meadow River pass through scenic gorges and valleys containing a wide variety of natural and cultural features. The Gauley River contains several class V+ rapids, making it one of the most adventurous white water boating rivers in the east.
New River Gorge National River (Glen Jean)
A rugged, white water river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. Located in southern West Virginia, New River Gorge National River was established in 1978 to conserve and protect 53 miles of the New River as a free-flowing waterway. This unit of the National Park System encompasses over 70, 000 acres of land along the New River between the towns of Hinton and Fayetteville.
Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail (Harpers Ferry)
Citizens in the Potomac Heritage Trail corridor are rediscovering history and reclaiming access to rivers and other outdoor places. The designation of a Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail corridor in 1983, an amendment to the National Trails System Act, is being used by communities in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania to develop and make connections among trails, historic sites and a range of recreational and educational opportunities.
Beech Fork Lake (Lavalette)
Beech Fork Lake is a 720 acre lake in the hills of West Virginia with fishing, swimming and boating opportunities. Camping is available at nearby Beech Fork State Park. Beech Fork Lake is part of the integrated flood reduction system operated by the Corps of Engineers for the entire Ohio River Basin. There is a 10 horsepower limit on boats. Bluestone Lake (Hinton)
Bluestone Dam spans the New River, forming Bluestone Lake, the third largest lake in West Virginia. With a 2, 040 acre surface area, the lake provides boaters, water skiers, and fishermen with great recreational opportunities. The State of West Virginia operates Bluestone State Park with cabin rentals, picnicking and camping facilities. Also, a swimming pool, gift shop, two boat ramps, and a marina are operated for the convience of visitors.
Burnsville Lake (Burnsville)
Although the primary purpose of the dam is flood control, Burnsville Lake offers many recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, picnicking, hiking, camping, and much more. At the Burnsville Lake Dam and the Riffle Run Campground/Day-Use/Boat Launch, you can take advantage of camping at one of sixty sites (non-reservable, electric & non-electric), take a picnic or plan a family reunion at one of the four reservable shelters. Boat rentals and storage are available at the marina.
East Lynn Lake (East Lynn)
East Lynn Lake was constructed primarily for flood control, water quality, fish management, and recreation. There are a total of 24, 821 acres of project lands and waters at East Lynn. The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources manages 22, 928 acres for Fish, Wildlife, and Forestry Management under a license agreement with the Corps of Engineers.

Summersville Lake (Summersville)
Summersville Lake is located near the town of Summersville in Nicholas County, West Virginia. With nearly 2, 800 acres and 60 miles of shoreline, it is West Virginia's largest lake. The lake boasts exceptional water clarity and a scenic contrast of terrain ranging from rolling hills to vertical rock cliffs. Water releases from Summersville Dam create world class rafting through the Gauley River National Recreation Area.
Stonewall Jackson Lake (Weston)
Stonewall Jackson Lake provides an ideal setting for your pleasure and relaxation. Boating, fishing, hunting, camping and hiking are just a few of the many recreational opportunities that are available at the project. Corps of Engineers' facilities include an administration building with a visitor information center and public restrooms, an outdoor plaza and walks for viewing the dam, fishing access to the tail water area, hiking trail, and visitor parking areas.
Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge (Davis)
The Canaan Valley, with an altitude of 3, 200 feet, is 14 miles long and 3 miles wide, and the highest valley of its size east of the Rocky Mountains. Climate and habitats are typical of areas much further north, and the plants and animals are unusual for the latitude. Many Valley species are at or near the southernmost edge of their ranges.
